 Head for Banner Elk, North Carolina for a winter trip to Beech Mountain. Ski Beech is one of our favorite slopes. At 5500 ft, it is the highest ski area in eastern North America and it features by far the best 360 vista skiing around in the Southeast. Ski Beech offers 10 lifts and runs on either side of the mountain which makes for a nice variety of terrain. Oz run is Beech's secret and worth a trek to spend the day on a super wide open dog curve with nothing but you and trees. The main mountain features two runs which challenge any level as well as two intermediate runs which offer a nice long varied route. Outdoor Ice Skating Rink, snowboarding and excellent skiing day and night. Ski Beech's Alpine Village offers restaurants and shops like the Red Baron Snowboarding shop.
