Arctic air is more dense (heavier) and as it moves south, it "burrows" underneath relatively milder air above. The leading edge of this cold air is a front stalled to our south. A series of lows will form and move along this boundary--one was yesterday, another moves through Monday, a third comes through Tuesday, and the last comes through Wednesday. Now the play by play... Today is quiet and chilly between systems. Clouds increase tonight and light snow is possible after midnight lasting into Monday morning. Total accumulation will be less than 2". This light precip may change to light sleet or even light freezing rain in the afternoon before ending as light snow Monday evening. The following system looks weaker--maybe a bit of light snow Tuesday morning. The last in this series is stronger and will shove our Arctic airmass farther north--rain will be the more likely form of precip Wednesday; however, some freezing rain is possible. Precipitation ends Wednesday night. Thursday-Friday are quiet and not as cold between systems. Another strong push of cold air arrives Saturday into next Sunday with snow showers.
