As of Dec. 9th, 2004 Sky Valley Resort, Georgia's only ski resort, will be closing for the 2004 season. The restaurant, golf course and pro shop will be remain open throughout the winter. A private party purchased Sky Valley Resort this year. They have yet to determine if they will even open next year. This news comes sad to many Georgians. Sky Valley in Northern Georiga, offered skiing above 3000 feet.

Dillard, Georgia is Sky Valley's nearest village. Dillard caters heavy to travelers and offers a truly unique experience. The Dillard House is a must visit. Fantastic Southern dining experience on stately grounds with cabins, a petting zoo, horseback riding and tons more. Sky Valley served as a nice garnish to the area's appeal.

We called Sky Valley for the inside scoop. They plan on making a decision about the resort's future by the Summer of 2005. The entire resort is under scrutiny and deliberation. Still a thriving resort with their golf course and restaurant, developer's may choose to mow down the whole thing. Although Cataloochee is just an hour from Sky Valley, this really puts a strain on the draw of Dillard. Sky Valley ski fans should cast their vote by contacting Sky Valley via their website. Let the new owners know you are out there and want to keep Sky Valley alive.
